Muslim Community Radio

Muslim Community Radio, aka Ramadan Radio aka MCR Ramadan Special, has emerged for a variety of reasons. The main of which was to plug the gap that exists in quality Muslim broadcasting in English language.

In 1998 and 1999 MCR broadcasted using a Restricted Service Licence (RSL). Building on the success of those years MCR set out to establish a Radio station for Muslims covering London and its surroundings. In 2000 MCR ran a pilot programme for three months on Spectrum Radio 558am. This was very successful - however due, to contractual issues with Spectrum we could not continue this any longer.

Since then, in 2001 and 2002, Muslim Community Radio (MCR) with the call sign "Ramadan Special" has secured licenses to broadcast 24 hours across East London throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

MCR is run by local volunteers, and is an exciting environment for budding professionals in the broadcasting area. A sample range of its broadcasting will include, shows for women, run by women - children's show, Fiqh sessions, quizzes, Bangla programmes, Somali programmes, Arabic programmes, youth programmes and of course light entertainment programmes!

We are very keen to establish a full time Muslim radio and welcome any advice or comments that you may have.

Inshallah, MCR Ramadan Special will be on air this Ramadan, so to tune in on 101.4fm if your are in East London. For more info email us on mcr101fm@hotmail.com.

Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.
    The Essence of Hajj
The significance of Hajj as a pillar of Islam is quite evident from the reward this act of worship brings to its performer. As has been reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the person performing the Hajj is forgiven and purified as if he/she is a newborn baby. Although its importance and formalities are generally known and talked about, its essence, spirit, and impact on a performer?s behavior and personality are not generally understood or remembered.
