Islam Awareness Project

Inviting to Islam with knowledge and wisdom

The Islam Awareness Project (IAP) is an excellent way of getting the message of Islam across to non-Muslims. Based at The East London Mosque IAP is ideally located to reach the general public and professionals.

IAP is involved in several areas of work all geared towards creating better community relations. It is actively engaged in reaching out to the general public as well as professionals. IAP's areas of work include:

  • Providing information and literature to visitors
  • Responding to general enquiries
  • Organising and facilitating Mosque visits by schools and organisations
  • Representation on community and interfaith meetings
  • Design and delivery of cultural awareness training to professionals
  • Holding open days and seminars for general public
  • Co-ordinating Islam Awareness Month
  • Production and publication of fact sheets

Open days are attended by many different people with varied interests and knowledge of Islam. Visitors to the Mosque can see the exhibition and displays set up for the day.

Specially designed training sessions give professionals better understanding and knowledge of working with Muslim communities. Training sessions and workshops have been held for trainee teachers, social workers and probation officers. This will be expanded to reach more professionals in areas such as health, education, law enforcement, media and public services.

Islam Awareness Month is an annual event bringing together a broad mix of organisations on a nationwide scale. This year will see a month long campaign to create better awareness and understanding of Islam and Muslims with events being held locally around the country.

Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.
    The Essence of Hajj
The significance of Hajj as a pillar of Islam is quite evident from the reward this act of worship brings to its performer. As has been reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the person performing the Hajj is forgiven and purified as if he/she is a newborn baby. Although its importance and formalities are generally known and talked about, its essence, spirit, and impact on a performer?s behavior and personality are not generally understood or remembered.
